Poulam Patel is Professor of Clinical Oncology at the University of Nottingham and the Nottingham Cancer Centre and Head of Division of cancer & Stem Cells at the University of Nottingham.
Professor Patel trained at St George’s Medical School, London. After completing his general medical training he was a Clinical Research Fellow at the Royal Marsden Hospital and then the Institute of Cancer Research, where he completed his PhD in gene therapy and tumour immunology. He continued his translational research into Renal Cancer and Melanoma as a Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist at the Leeds Cancer Centre.
Currently, as Professor of Clinical Oncology in Nottingham, he leads a laboratory team investigating the interactions of tumour cells and the immune system, focusing on the developing of novel vaccines, and dendritic cell vaccination strategies. His clinical and research focuses on the treatment of melanoma and renal carcinoma the evaluation of new therapies. He has been PI on several Phase I and II and III studies of novel therapies and participates in many multicentre studies.
Professor Patel is the National Specialty Lead at the NIHR Clinical Research Network: Cancer (NCRN), past Chairman of the EORTC (European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer) Melanoma Study Group and Divisional Cancer Clinical Lead at the East Midlands Clinical Research Network.
