Alison Hocking is the manager of the Social Work Department at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, responsible for the provision of Social Work, Music Therapy, Aboriginal Health and Language Services. Alison has a Masters of Advanced Social Work (research). Her thesis examined the psychosocial needs of women undergoing treatment for cervical cancer. She is currently undertaking her PhD.
Alison’s clinical interests lie in working with women with gynaecological cancers, Aboriginal cancer care programs and incorporating the patient experience into models of care. She has developed the Collaboration for Social Research in Cancer Care with Professor Lynette Joubert at The University of Melbourne. Research interests focus on the patient experience of cancer, social determinants of health and workforce development in oncology.
She is the President of Oncology Social Work Australia and the Chair Cancer Council Victoria’s Clinical Network – Psycho-Oncology Group.
