Associate Professor Christine Giles
Associate Professor Christine Giles holds a Master in Public Policy, from the School of Economics, Sydney University. Christine also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Post Graduate Qualifications in Health Economic Evaluation. Appointed as A/Professor, Health Policy in the Faculty of Medicine, School of Public Health, Sydney University, Christine was awarded this appointment on the basis of her contribution to health policy. Christine served on the Advisory Board of the Menzies Centre for Health Policy, Sydney University, for the period 2011 – March 2014. She has also been a Board Member of the Sydney Local District Health Board since 2013.
Christine has been involved in the development of significant health and public policy directions and in the formulation of health public policy in Australia and internationally. She has served in senior policy making positions as General Manager Policy, NSW Health, and Director, Health Policy in a number of state governments. As a member of a 5 person Council of Australian Government (COAG) Health Reform Committee, Prime Minister and Cabinet, Christine contributed to the development of new directions in health in Australia. Internationally, she has served for a period of 7 years, as the principal international advisor, health reform for the World Bank for South Asia and worked in many countries and regions in health advisory roles including, Indonesia, China, and the Middle East and South Asia.
Christine has held her current position as the Executive Director and Head of Policy and Strategy at Cancer Australia, since July 2011.
