Alexandra (Sandie) McCarthy is jointly appointed as Professor of Clinical Nursing, University of Queensland and Mater Hospitals Brisbane. She also holds a fractional appointment as Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Auckland. She has practised extensively in acute cancer care, including chemotherapy administration, in rural and metropolitan settings. Sandie currently has two programs of clinical cancer research. The first program develops and tests interventions to mitigate the short- and long-term side effects of cancer treatments. This program is active in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. In the second program, Sandie and her team are developing and testing a cancer patient-reported outcome measure in Australia and New Zealand.
